Gainesville pest control

We Florida's top experts in rodent control. We are not a typical Gainesville rat removal or pest control company. We don't treat rats or mice like insects, because they are not - they are mammals! You can't just use poison to get rid of them, like you can with insects. Unlike most Gainesville pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions. We don't just use poison every month. We solve your rodent problem forever, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas, no matter how small, with steel
  • Set a dozen or more rat or mouse traps in the house and attic
  • Remove all rodents as they are caught and monitor for activity
  • Once there is no more activity and no more caught, we're done
  • When necessary, we clean rodent droppings, replace insulation, and repair chewed electric wires

Gainesville Rodent Removal Tip:

Why using poison causes dead rats in the house
Rat poison is one of the top results your mind comes up with when dealing with a rat situation on your property. Right up there with snap traps, we have sprinkling a bit of poison on some meat or other type of bait (though meat is thought to work best for rats). But we rarely stop to think about what that will result in, don't we?

Rather obviously, when you use poison to exterminate rats, you're quite likely to find dead rats in the house. Now, that might sound a bit like a no-brainer to you, but it's actually a bit of a trickier matter than you might at first assume. So let's talk a bit about dead rats, poison, and the connection.

Will rat poison lead to dead rats?
Yes, unfortunately, it will. Many homeowners seem to assume that using rat poison is a great method to get rid of rats, as you don't have to handle the body yourself (as you would with a snap trap, for example). What they often fail to consider, however, is that the rat is likely to die inside your house. Much as you wish them to, the rodent won't conveniently carry itself out and far away from your property, so as not to bother you. You know, it'll be more concerned with dying and stuff.

Dead rats in the house - not fun!
rodent trapping The most obvious reason you don't want dead rats in the house is the stench. As the body of the rodent begins to decompose, it will give off a horrible odor, which might make life difficult, to say the least. It doesn't help that poisoned rats don't just drop dead as soon as they taste the stuff, but rather crawl into a spot that's difficult to reach (so as to be protected from potential predators which they wouldn't be able to fend off). This makes removal of the dead rat difficult and potentially dangerous since the smell is likely to attract other unwanted house guests.

So in case, this needed saying, you don't want dead rats in the house, especially not in the plumbing or walls or basement, or wherever the rodents might get off to in their desperate search for a hiding place.

How rat poison works…
There are several types of rat poisons available on the market today, with varying effects, but the most common one weakens the veins and arteries of the rodent, causing them to grow thinner and eventually rupture. This, in turn, leads to internal bleeding, and a slow, agonizing death that can take hours, or sometimes even days.

And if you feel put off by the graphic nature of that last paragraph, think how awful the rat must feel. So not only is rat poison ineffective (as you will then have to deal with another problem - finding and disposing of the dead rat), it's also highly inhumane, and should be avoided.

Are there other methods?
Yes! While snap traps and rat poison seem to be the obvious answers we think of when bothered by a pesky rat, there are other, far more humane methods of disposal. For example, you can call in a professional that specializes in live trapping or attempt to do it yourself. Once the rat has entered the cage, it will step on a little plate that will cause the door to fall shut, trapping it inside. From there, you or the expert will be able to carry the contained rat to a distant place where it won't bother you. Live traps have made killing rats largely unnecessary and should be your go-to rat removal method.
